John Russell

John “Russ” Russell is one of the region's finest jazz guitarists. His musical grounding started in the Sheffield Youth String Orchestra in the 1970s playing violin, before moving to guitars. He's played a variety of styles but found his home playing jazz guitar where solo renditions of standards and modern pieces satisfied a desire to relate the full depth of songs.

Influenced by guitarists from classical to rock and jazz he has developed a style that exudes a mellow warmth, while still allowing improvisational flourish in solo playing, and imagination and energy in ensembles.
